For years I was in search of ‘the perfect diet’. Meaning, of course, the type of diet that makes you a lean, mean, killing machine. The type of diet everyone seems to be after these days. The type of diet that seems to focus on numbers, macronutrients (proteins FTW) and restriction (don’t you know carbs are the ENEMY?). One day I grew tired of being mean, grumpy, short-tempered and eating solely for the sake of a trim body.
I wanted more out of life.
What many people fail to realize, like I once did, is that foods don’t affect just our physical body. Foods don’t solely have the ability to make us skinny or fat or provide us with vitamin XYZ. Food also affects our energetic body, emotional body and spiritual body.
The first time I noticed this was after going vegan, pretty much overnight. Eating a vegan diet made me a more compassionate person, and not just towards animals. I started caring more for the environment, the people around me, and I became more easy-going over time. Don’t get me wrong, I am still high-maintenance (I am a woman, after all) and very, ehm, passionate, but I’ve become a little softer around the edges for sure.
It was at that moment that I felt I a change in my entire being, not just my physical body, simply by changing my diet, that I started to understand exactly how much the foods we put in our body affect us.
I was ready for more and stumbled upon ‘raw food’
Not long after I ‘went raw’ (I use the term loosely), all sorts of things changed for me. A relationship that had lived beyond it’s prime was ended. I decided to quit a life-sucking study in clinical nutrition and go the holistic route and be my own boss. Suddenly I met a lot more persons much more aligned with my vision and my beliefs. I went on crazy adventures like accepting an invite to the land down under, where I spend 5 magical weeks. Next month I will be flying out to LA by myself and not long after I am flying solo to Bali- all things I couldn’t even have dreamt of before. A few weeks into eating raw I noticed I started feeling happier, lighter, every day. I didn’t merely gain energy, I now possessed a different kind of energy. I now live a free life and am not afraid to do whatever the heck I feel like.
Yes and no. Of course there is more to it than that. But eating a clean, high vibrational diet clears your mind and strengthens your spirit. Eating easily digested, real food leaves you with an abundance of energy, which is a truly amazing experience. Sappy and cliche as it may sound, I don’t give a shit. Everyone still has to spend some time and energy on figuring out what it is they came here to do, but I can assure you all of this is so much easier on a diet that’s stripped from chemicals, preservatives and dead ‘foods’. A raw diet makes for a raw personality. Away with the facade, the shiny fake package, the need for advertising. Be raw, be yourself.
And here is why.
Raw food =/= uncooked food. It is so much more. It is synonym with fresh and alive. Vibrant and colorful. High life force and energy. I could throw terms like ‘chi’ or ‘prana’ or ‘enzymatically alive’ your way, or I could appeal to your common sense. When we cook, boil, broil, roast, grill, steam, barbecue, microwave, process, change or chemically rearrange our food, we denature our food. We change chemical bonds, destroy nutrients, and basically turn it into something unnatural and devitalized. And when we eat too many devitalized foods, we eventually start to feel devitalized too.
Fast Food, Slow Death
When you eat heavy, dulling foods, your body will become sluggish and your mind will become numbed. Eat light, fresh, vibrant foods, and your mind, body, and spirit will become just that. Alive and fresh.
Meat, eggs, dairy, cooked grains, steamed veggies, none of these are bad per se. But if you don’t balance these foods out with fresh, raw and light foods that are easy and clean to digest, like greens/salads, raw veggies, sprouts, raw seeds and an abundance of fresh fruit, you will never experience that light and vibrant energy that you were meant to feel.
You get out what you put in.
Nowadays, our bodies have less of a need for heavy and dense foods to survive harsh climates and abysmal circumstances (although admittedly sometimes city-life can feel pretty abysmal…). Instead, much more beneficial for us would to be to have unlimited (and natural, caffeine-free) energy that enables us to deal with stress and pressure gracefully. The lighter and more nutrient-dense (as opposed to calorie-dense) foods we eat, the more our energy, immune system and stamina will increase.
Our bodies do not crave fried chicken or Twinkies. That would be our tastebuds and our mind. Our bodies crave fresh, pure, unadulterated foods, whether that be tons of fresh fruit, nuts and seeds, raw fish or organic eggs and salad. The term ‘raw food diet’ means squat (I mean, I’ve never heard of the ‘cooked food diet’, have you?). It’s not about sucking down a pound of carrot sticks every day. Eat whatever it is that feels right for your body, incorporate as much or as little animals foods as you want, and experiment with the amount and type of raw foods you eat. Fact is, the more raw and whole foods you eat, the better and more alive you’ll feel. The more alive you feel, the more you’ll want to adhere to this new way of eating.
No need for me to hide sprouted flax seeds in your deep dish pizza.
The quality and vibration of our food influences the vibration of our bodies. Fresh, unprocessed, organic raw foods increase our vibration and in turn our energy, vitality, stamina, charisma, creativity and even our intelligence. Bodies that vibrate on a higher frequency will attract other people that vibrate on the same frequency, opening up a new realm of connections, relationships and possibilities for you.
If you are really dedicated to live a higher quality of live, become a more efficient and effective person and reach new levels of energy and vitality- simply give it a try.
Raw food isn’t about adding years to your life. It is about adding LIFE to your years.
Me. Now.
So after all this talk about this supposedly ‘extreme’ raw vegan diet, you must think I am at least somewhat rigid, no?
No. I am no longer vegan, I enjoy raw honey and occasionally I’ll eat raw organic dairy too. I am no dogmatic raw foodist, rather I eat whatever the hell I want, when I want it. But thanks to eating high raw for a long time, my body now actually asks for salads, green juices and tons of fruit (mind you, I didn’t use to come anywhere near a salad). I am in no way propagandizing a 100% raw vegan diet- I simply aspire for others to discover the awesome and life changing benefits raw foods hold- from the physical to the emotional to the spiritual.
Namaste!
Let’s Get High: Healthy, Natural & LEGAL Drugs
Coffee and energy drinks are pure evil. They provide fake, unsustainable and unfriendly energy. Caffeine is natural, but so are cocaine and arsenic. Use caffeine like it was meant to, as drugs or medicine. Instead, if you’re looking for a boost, try one of these alternatives on a special occasion.
Maca
Maca is natures viagra for both men and women (if I hadn’t grabbed your attention before, I’m sure I have now). It is a so called adaptogen that influences your hormones in a positive way. It increases energy, stamina and libido. You can take maca daily (1 teaspoon) for a longer period time (just take breaks every now and again) or take a larger dose (1 tablespoon) once in while for a more potent instant effect.
Maca root is available at raw food resellers, some health food stores and online (Navitas Naturals is one brand that sells it)
Cacao
My favorite upper is cacao, otherwise known as natures amphetamine. Cacao is full of chemical compounds that are also found in coffee, ecstasy and weed, just in minuscule amounts. Cacao uplifts your mood, gives you an energy boost and creates feeling of attraction and excitement. Raw cacao gives you a subtle, non-invasive high and a rush of pleasure. I have a whole eBook on raw chocolate, that’s how much I love the stuff!
Raw cacao (not the same as roasted cacao!) is available at raw food resellers, some health food stores and online (Navitas Naturals is one brand that sells it)
Yerba Mate
A fan of coffee? Try Yerba Mate instead, natures speed. Yerba mate is a drink that contains about a third the caffeine content of coffee but is equally invigorating. It leaves you feeling happy and fully energized without the jittery side-effects. Yerba Mate is said to have the strength of coffee, the health benefits of tea, and the euphoria
of chocolate all in one.
Yerba Mate comes in loose tea or tea bags and it available in health food stores and cafes.
